The American Dream

After watching Eat Pray Love last night and listening to the fat Italian guy, Luca Spaghetti-Giuseppe Gandini, in the barber scene ramble on about how Americans like to sit around in their PJs or sweats, these “pants” and Bridget Jones’s Diary (a movie in which Renee Zellweger plays a Brit) were the first things that came to mind.

Before I went to the movies, I was delighted when I got an e-mail that J.Crew is having a 30% off sale. That’s when I stumbled on the “luxe knit un-sweatpants.” It took me a few minutes to figure out what exactly they were and how I felt about them. Truth is, I still don’t know! Is this where fashion meets function…or frumpiness?

Leave it to Americans, the only people I know who go out of the house in unflattering sweats and a t-shirt, to come up with a skinny-jean/sweatpants hybrid…and charge $60 for them!!

These pants are what all American women dream of — sweats that they can confidently wear somewhere other than the grocery store.

I still am unsure whether I even like them on the model.

Here they are on real women

The blogger (below) of mysuperfluities.blogspot.com seems to almost pull them off with wedges. (I can’t say as much for the rest of the outfit.)

So, tell me, what do you think? Are these pants the American dream or nightmare?
