Effortless Elegance at Tibi Fall 2012

Less is more is by far the underlying motto behind Tibi designer Amy Smilovic’s fall collection. Conveyed through minimalism and menswear, Smilovic presents a fresh fusion of the simple 90s, with the swinging Yé-yé 60s. She even starts out the show with a remix of Serge Gainsbourg’s “Bonnie and Clyde”.

A chic, cropped pantsuit in Catholic schoolgirl plaid, for example, comes layered over slim, Celine-esque turtlenecks. Tailored maxi skirts with pant-like, back welt pockets put a unique spin on the menswear phenomenon.

The coolest of the understated looks gets an extra kick from unanticipated fabrics like reflective, jewel-tone polyurethane, matted micro-paillettes, and Lurex brocade.

While watching the models wearing all of these can’t-go-wrong separates, I thought of one girl who would love these pieces: Olivia Palermo…who was ironically in the front row, 400 feet away.
